Welcome to Community Impact!
As a faith-based organization serving older adults in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) believes strongly that its mission extends beyond the physical boundaries of its residential communities in Rockville, MD; Winchester, VA; and Staunton, VA.
Certainly, a primary part of our ministry is to serve our residents who are no longer able to afford the full cost of their care – in 2014 alone, over $4.8 million was provided for this purpose. But we also believe it is important to engage with the wider community, whether through relationships with other organizations, by providing resources to others who serve older adults, or touching the lives of others through the activities of our residents.
Begun as a formal program just a few years ago, the NLCS Community Impact Program is comprised of three distinct areas.
- Residential – whether by providing benevolent care, offering outreach activities to older adults surrounding a residential campus, or through the activities of our residents in the larger community
- Programmatic – through relationships with other organizations to provide specific services or programs at no or reduced cost to members of the broader community
- Grant-making – by providing a source of funds to faith-based and community organizations located in the territory of the Virginia, Delaware-Maryland and Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. These grants are awarded by the NLCS Community Impact Advisory Council under the auspices of the NLCS Board of Trustees.
Please take a look at our Community Impact Reports which provide specific information about what we’ve done in prior years.
