Senior services create a community without walls.
National Lutheran Communities & Services serves people of all faiths.
With more than 125 years of experience in senior services, National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) is a faith- based, not-for-profit ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) Delaware-Maryland, Metropolitan Washington, D.C. and Virginia Synods. Serving people of all beliefs, NLCS honors, inspires and supports choice and opportunity in service to seniors.
NLCS is honoring its heritage while preparing for the future. In planning for future generations, in 2011 we refreshed our mission statement, established in 1890, to more accurately reflect the activities of the ministry now and into the future:
To fulfill its Christian ministry, National Lutheran Communities & Services provides an array of options for seniors including residential living along with home and health care services which are designed to meet individual needs.
Our mission unites staff, board members and volunteers alike, but what drives our care for seniors is our ministry, the heart of NLCS. We express that ministry in every facet of our work, from providing benevolent care for those who lack financial resources to meeting the needs of residents. You’ll see it in a nurse’s smile or the meticulous touches of a housekeeper.
Through a wonderful tradition of philanthropy, we continue to enhance our services to seniors.
