Lawrence Jordan III joined National Lutheran Communities & Services as General Counsel in 2018. Jordan brings 20 years of legal experience to the role, seven of those providing services to health care organizations. In this role, Jordan leads and further develops NLCS’ compliance program, driving the organization’s strong culture of integrity forward.
With 20 years in the legal sector, Jordan joined NLCS from T.J. Rock Enterprises, Inc. where he served in a dual role as Corporate Counsel and Compliance Officer, maintaining an effective compliance program enforcing values, policies and procedures. Prior to that, he served as Health Sciences Legal Coordinator at Howard University. Jordan held other positions including Associate Attorney, Law Clerk and Insurance Defense Paralegal. For the past eight years, he has served as Associate Professor at the University of Maryland University College.
Jordan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Communication from Temple University, an Associate in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies from Northern Virginia Community College and a Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, Ca.
Rick joined National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) in February of 2018 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As a senior level management professional, Rick brings over 25 years of financial acumen and a proven track record of strategic executive leadership. As the CFO, he will oversee financial performance and reporting for all National Lutheran entities, treasury and investment management of assets, and will assist with identifying and evaluating various long-range planning initiatives and capital expenditures. Additionally, Rick will work closely with the Board of Trustees and executive directors to develop long-term strategic business plans.
Most recently, Rick was Managing Director at Solar Renewable Energy, LLC, managing the day-to-day operations of various commercial energy, real estate and health care projects. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Pacific Retirement Services, Inc., where he served in a variety of roles including Senior VP of Development and Chief Accounting Officer. Rick also spent 17 years at KPMG, holding multiple positions including, Director and Senior Manager of Retirement Housing & Long-Term Care Consulting Practice and Manager of Assurance Practice.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Washington & Jefferson College and is a certified public accountant with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Cynthia has joined National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) as Chief Operating Officer (COO), a newly appointed role for NLCS and brings over 28 years of senior living experience to this new position. She is appointed with strategically growing and diversifying the organization, with an enhanced focus on operating as a senior-living system and leveraging the benefits and efficiencies associated with it.
Cynthia has been working with NLCS as a consultant for over four years and in that time has assisted with various operations projects, the largest of them including the Assisted Living program at The Village at Rockville, The Village at Orchard Ridge’s Orchard Woods Health Center and myPotential at Home in Winchester, Va.
Her background is concentrated in new program development, as well as operational performance improvement and re-engineering of systems and processes within senior living organizations. Most recently Cynthia was the President and Owner of Walters Advisors, LLC, providing project management and advisory services to various senior living organizations. Prior to that, she spent 19 years at KPMG, seven of which were spent as a partner and leader of their National Senior Living Advisory Practice. Walters also spent five years at Presbyterian Senior Living in Dillsburg, Pa., as Vice President of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) and Vice President of Operations Systems Development and Integration.
Kathleen has been with the National Lutheran family for more than 10 years as Director of Human Resources at The Village at Rockville, and currently as Chief Talent and Culture Officer for the parent organization, National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS). As Chief Talent and Culture Officer, she manages a staff to support all of the National Lutheran communities currently in Maryland and Virginia, ensuring continuity in corporate policies and procedures relating to employee hiring/retention, employee benefits and customer/employee satisfaction.
As Chief of Talent & Culture, Kathleen has implemented a Code of Conduct and a Corporate Compliance Program for employees, board members and other associates that will meet federal, state and local laws that govern our organization in the senior living industry. In addition, she is creating a comprehensive customer service program that will be implemented throughout the National Lutheran family.
In 2011, Kathleen earned certification for Leading Age Certified Aging Services Professional (CASP). Kathleen’s prior experience includes human resource management in retail sales and 15 years in the real estate appraisal industry.
Larry Bradshaw joined National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) in October of 2009 as President & CEO. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit senior living industry. From 1987-2006, he was Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Strategic Growth with Asbury Communities, a not-for-profit, multi-site, senior living organization. In 2006, Larry took on the role of President for Asbury’s for-profit company, The Asbury Group, offering consulting services to other Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). Larry was also the principal of Bradshaw Insights Group, providing consulting services to CCRCs in everything from strategic planning and board development to financial analysis and capital structure development.
As the President & CEO at NLCS, Larry’s focus is strategically growing and furthering the organization’s 126-year mission and ministry of providing lifestyle, residential and health care options for seniors. He leads a team of dedicated professionals whose collective goal is to meet the ever-changing needs of seniors, while providing excellent care and innovative services that preserve seniors’ independence and dignity. Under his leadership, NLCS has become a multi-site organization offering a wide range of services including home health care and community clinics.
Larry is an active member of LeadingAge and LeadingAge Maryland, has served as a CCAC (now CARF) Commissioner, and as Chair of CCAC’s Financial Advisory Panel. He is a frequent presenter at numerous national meetings, including LeadingAge, the National Investment Conference, and Ziegler’s Senior Living CFO Workshop.
Larry has a B.S. in Accounting from Emporia State University and an M.B.A. in Technology Management from The University of Phoenix.
